An Easy Way to Keep Toddlers Safe with Medication in the Home

Toddler medicine safetyIn a home with four children, toddler safety can be a real challenge. With the chaos of everyday life, we always try to look for easy ways to keep our toddlers safe. After trying several different methods, we came up with a way to keep our medication in a safe and secure place that was also easy for us to access. We repurposed a plastic toolbox as a portable medicine chest and matched it with a combination padlock. We keep the locked toolbox in the top shelf of our kitchen cupboard so whenever we need medicine for the kids (or the headaches associated with raising the kids) we know exactly where to look.

Medicine Lockbox Helpful Tips

When selecting a toolbox to safely store your medicine in, make sure it has a built in clasp for a padlock and that it is sturdy enough to ensure it won’t be breached by an energetic and curious toddler.

Remember – Lock up those children’s vitamins. They can be quite dangerous because they often have a pleasant taste that could entice a child to eat them like candy.
Do not rely on the locked box alone for medicine safety – make sure to place it in an area inaccessible to toddlers and of course never leave a toddler unattended.
